Our Dear Brethren:

May was another excellent month at Suwanee. Covid 19 was seen as “past” in the minds of most. This allowed the congregation to move quickly toward the resetting of our Goals and Plans for the balance of 2021. Overall, the group has been very optimistic and even asking about “when” various parts of the plans were going to be taking place. Attendance picked up initially but has leveled off. We are being blessed with an increase in visitors to the Lakes region. We had 10 with us one Sunday from just one family!!

The Sunday night worship hour has been reinstated. We had a “monthly” Sunday night singing service in May. This was the first one since the Pandemic. We also reinstated the “first Sunday night preaching” opportunity for the men.

We have made plans for our first series of Gospel Preaching for 2021. There were a few studies, but no Gospel Meetings in 2020 at Suwanee. Lee Forsythe will be with us August 8th - 11th (Sunday through Wednesday). I will be getting the flyers done by the end of June to mail out. The parking lot needs some repairs. We hope to have this done in time for the meeting in August.
Our “preacher training program” is back on track as well. The young man in the training is growing by leaps and bounds. This is very encouraging. His last lesson was entitled “God Does Not Move” and was not only filled with Scripture (2 Timothy 4:1-4) but also well executed. There are always things to work on and he has been open to this process. We videotaped the lesson for him to review and critique. He is more critical than I am. I usually give him one or two items to focus on for each lesson.

One of our widows is suffering greatly. She has given “power of attorney” to a family member (niece). Her immediate family is of little help. The brethren at Suwanee are planning on “stepping up” to meet the challenges and reduce her overall physical needs. The situation is difficult. She was highly active and strong until a few recent events related to aging. The niece is about 2 hours away, but she keeps me posted on status of things. I will meet with the ladies and encourage their vigilance. They are always responsive!! Prayers are greatly needed!!

In May lessons included three of six lessons based on John 14:6-7, “Jesus the Way (overview)”; Jesus the ONLY Way to a Better Life”; “Jesus the Only Way to Forgiveness” as well as lessons on “Worship” and the “Strength of the Local Church” – all these and many more can be viewed online at God’s Truth Without Walls – Facebook and YouTube.

My brother Douglas passed away at about noon on Thursday May 13th, 2021. He was 14 months younger than me. I am the oldest of 4 brothers. While we were close as children, we simply were not as adults. We stayed in contact via phone and texting, but I had not seen him in about 30 years!! His family asked me if I would do the memorial service. I agreed and made the trip to Las Vegas. Doug’s son from his first marriage (my nephew) had connected with me on Facebook several years ago and recently has been watching the lessons and asking questions. I went with the possibility of my nephew studying with me. We had three exceptionally good studies while I was there and he asked if we could continue to study long distance (he is in Maryland) to which I was delighted to respond “YES, OF COURSE”!!

The Wednesday night study is into Hebrews chapter 11 and FAITH. Sunday Morning Studies are in First Timothy. We are now in I Timothy 3:1-7 – materials on elders. The thorough study of the qualifications is paying off. Several of our young men can see the importance of starting “now” to develop the characteristics, reputation, family, etc. The reasons we are “lacking” in terms of this expectation are varied, but without a continued focus on the eldership as God desires coupled with prayer we could not hope to be blessed with qualified shepherds for this flock. Please pray for us in this regard as we truly “need” the leadership.
