Support Letter November 2020

Our beloved brethren in Christ our Savior:

November started out stronger than expected in terms of attendance and overall “positive” outlook concerning the “present distress” and as the month pressed on it was obvious the virus and the response to it (another lockdown in Kentucky) had many deciding to “worship” at home again. We have a large percentage that is fighting disease and immune deficiencies. Attendance has leveled back to where it was during the first lockdown. There is a great amount of “cynicism” concerning “what to do” in response to these latest actions (strong advice from our governing authorities). We are once again are making the public announcement about “masks, seating arrangements, social distancing, etc.) as part of our Sunday AM announcements. Prior to class on Sunday morning and Wednesday night Bible study the notice is posted on the PowerPoint for all to see and consider. The men (in lieu of elders) have decided to not make any additional changes to our schedule or our procedures. The public worship averages just below 25-30 in attendance. We did not have the annual visitors for the holiday (Thanksgiving). Again, this is due to the “present distress” and advisements about travel and number of persons attending any one event. Even local families were making adjustments due to the latest government advice. My family made similar decisions.

Prayers are greatly needed for those with physical ailments, but even more so for those who have been weakened spiritually by the present distress.
Suwanee, as a congregation, continues to encourage, exhort, and admonish. Some apparently are watching and following the “Covid 19” numbers daily. I personally do not. In fact, I do not encourage this daily dose of “number of deaths (4 states, are covered on the local news outlets), number of new cases, etc.” This has clearly played into the spiritual distress that members are experiencing and only heightens the overall concerns. Again, we have no plans to change any of the things we are currently doing. Sunday morning Bible Study and Sunday Morning Worship as well as Wednesday Night Bible Study will continue as planned. We have decided to forego the Sunday PM Worship service for the balance of the year. The devil knows that hearts are ripe for temptation during times of suffering. The faith of the strong gets stronger and the weak sometimes are overcome by temptations of the evil one.
Lessons (class and sermons) are continuing on exhortations and applications. The theme in November focused on THE MIND OF CHRIST and are we reflecting His Attitude? Sermons included such lessons: “The Mind of Christ #2”; “The Attitude that Saves”; “I AM the resurrection and the life”; “The Silence of God”; and “I Can”. I continue to add class materials on our studies in Timothy (Sunday AM) and Hebrews (Wednesday PM) to exhort and admonish faithfulness in the face of this current or any “present distress.” The lessons are well received and reflect the genuine need. We all know, isolation is seldom good for the “spirit of man” long-term.

The Wednesday night Bible Study on Hebrews is finished with the review of the first 7 Chapters. We began Hebrews chapter 8. Sunday Morning Studies are in First Timothy the first chapter. The class numbers are slightly below average, but those in attendance are good Bible students and participate in healthy discussions of God’s Word. The theme has been “Sound Doctrine” and how that is applied to our lives as individuals and also application as a congregation.

All our actions are based on our LOVE FOR GOD and OUR FELLOW MAN (“AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31). The faithful are never governed by FEAR.  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Cheryl’s mother did fair in November, but it is day to day. Cheryl’s Uveitis is under control. All praise and Glory to God for His bountiful blessings!! We continue to cherish your prayers.
I continue to videotape the Sunday AM sermon and also videotape the study of Hebrews on Wednesdays. I am investigating ways to improve the quality of the recordings. There were 444 views in November!! This is a tremendous blessing that has resulted to meet the needs of the present distress. The potential fruit to God’s glory and kingdom are encouraging!! These lessons are on now on Facebook and YouTube.
